CDI64600 – 64-Channel, 16-Bit Current-to-Digital ADC

CDI64600 - 64-CHANNEL, 16-BIT CURRENT-TO-DIGITAL ADC

The CDI64600 represents a refined and improved version of CDI64500, offering several key enhancements:

  • Cost Efficiency: The cost per channel has been reduced through the utilization of an updated foundry process.
  • Input Flexibility: It supports the processing of both positive and negative input Currents via external reference voltage selection.
  • System Scalability: The multi-device capability has been doubled, allowing up to 32 devices to share the same data lines.
  • Data Readout Robustness: The communication link employs a synchronization preamble and CRC error-detection on all data packets to ensure robust and reliable data transfer. This includes internal configuration consistency checks via checksum and embedded timestamp monitoring, making the device suitable for very large-scale systems.

Description

The CDI64600 is a 64-channel device that integrates a charge amplifier and a 16-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) per channel. This design is specifically engineered to offer the lowest power consumption per channel while supporting both positive or negative input currents and achieving low noise performance.
The device is available for ordering in a 9x9 mm FP-BGA package, as known good dies (KGD), or as complete 8" wafers, providing flexible integration options for your system.

What is the CDI64600 ASIC? +

The CDI64600 is our 64-channel current-to-digital converter ASIC. Each channel integrates a charge amplifier and a 16-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC). It is designed to provide low-noise signal conversion, low power consumption, and support for both positive and negative input currents.

How is the CDI64600 different from the CDI64500? +

The CDI64600 is an improved version of the CDI64500. It offers a lower cost per channel through an updated foundry process, supports both positive and negative input currents, allows up to 32 devices to share the same data lines, and includes enhanced data-integrity features.

What input charge range does the CDI64600 support? +

The CDI64600 charge amplifier supports a positive full-scale input charge range from 1.75 pC to 87.5 pC, depending on the selected gain setting. The device can also process positive or negative input currents through external reference voltage selection.

How is the gain configured in the CDI64600? +

The CDI64600 provides programmable gain capacitance ranging from 0.5 pF to 25 pF. Gain can be configured independently for two groups of 32 channels, allowing the input range to be adjusted according to application requirements.

What are the power consumption and noise performance of the CDI64600? +

The CDI64600 consumes less than 1.5 mW per channel. It also uses Correlated Double Sampling (CDS) to reduce low-frequency noise and offset drift, supporting accurate signal conversion in high-channel-count systems.

Which communication interfaces does the CDI64600 use? +

The CDI64600 uses an LVDS interface for high-speed data transfer and channel sequencing. It also includes an I2C interface for digital device configuration.

Can multiple CDI64600 devices share the same data lines? +

Yes. Up to 32 CDI64600 devices can be programmed and read using shared data lines. This capability supports the development of large, scalable multi-channel data-acquisition systems.

How does the CDI64600 support reliable data readout? +

The CDI64600 uses robust packet encoding with a synchronization preamble and CRC error detection. It also includes configuration checksum verification, embedded device-monitoring information, and timestamp monitoring to improve data integrity.

What package and supply formats are available for the CDI64600? +

We offer the CDI64600 in a custom 9 × 9 mm FP-BGA package. It is also available as known good dies (KGD) or complete 8-inch wafers, providing flexible integration options for different system and production requirements.
